Moving
Switch to Daylit: move your site without going offline
Switching to Daylit is quick, and your site stays online. You move your site first, check it on your free Daylit address, and only then point your domain name to Daylit. Until then your visitors notice nothing.
In five steps
- Create a site in My Daylit (you can try WordPress Start free for 30 days). You get an address like yourname.ondaylit.nl straight away.
- Install the Daylit Verhuizen plugin on your old WordPress site. You download it in My Daylit and upload it via Plugins → Add new.
- Paste your move code and click Start. The plugin sends your database and files in small pieces over HTTPS. This works even on cheap hosting with short time limits. Your old site stays as it is.
- Check your site on the Daylit address. Daylit checks the size and checksum of every file.
- Connect your domain in My Daylit and change the DNS record at your registrar. Daylit takes care of the SSL certificate. Then you cancel your old hosting.
Not WordPress?
You move a static site (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) with SFTP, for example with WinSCP, FileZilla or VS Code, or in the file manager in your browser. See putting files on your site. Do you have your own server, or a webshop with custom code? Daylit can take it over as it is, and later rebuild it on a Daylit server with a test environment. Ask in My Daylit.
Why people switch
- No teaser price: you renew at the same rate.
- Your own server per site instead of a crowded shared server.
- A backup every day at no extra cost, and restoring it yourself.
- Hosting on solar power, in the Netherlands.
Frequently asked questions
Is my site offline while I switch?
No. Your old site keeps running until you change your domain name. That change usually takes minutes to a few hours, and during that time the site works on one of the two addresses.
What does switching cost?
Nothing. The plugin is free, and you can try WordPress Start free for 30 days first.
Do I have to move my domain name?
No. Your domain can stay with your current registrar. You only change the DNS record so it points to Daylit.
How big may my site be?
The plugin sends pieces of 4 MB, so big sites move too. Your plan's storage grows with it up to the maximum.
