Why Daylit
Sun by day, battery by night
During the day our servers run on our own solar panels. We store the surplus in a battery and run on it at night for as long as it lasts. Low power costs, and you see that in the price.
In the Netherlands

Not a VPS, but containers
A VPS is a complete virtual computer per customer, with its own operating system you have to maintain yourself. For a website that is usually overkill. Daylit puts every site in its own lightweight container: shielded from other customers, without the weight of a whole virtual machine.
Efficient
No complete virtual computer per customer, so many more sites per server and far less power per site. That way our solar power goes further.
Quick to recover
A container starts in a few seconds. If something goes wrong, your site is back online quickly, and restoring a backup is done in no time.
Shielded and maintained
Every site runs in its own container, separate from other customers. We install the system's security updates, so you do not have to think about them.

Connect your own domain name
You buy a domain name yourself, from any provider you like. Then you connect it to Daylit in a few minutes.

Choose a registrar by its renewal price
Do not look at the first-year promotion, but at what you pay every year after that. A .nl domain only needs to cost a few euros a year. Some providers charge over € 25 a year after a ten-cent first year.

Set two DNS records
You do this in your registrar's DNS settings:

Done, we do the rest
As soon as the records are active, Daylit automatically puts an SSL certificate on your domain. You are usually online within the hour.
What to check at a registrar
- Renewal price
- What do you pay in the second year and after?
- Notice period
- How far in advance must you cancel? Put a reminder in your calendar so you are not caught out.
- Transfers
- Moving a .nl domain is usually free. If your registrar gets too expensive, take your domain with you.
- Own DNS management
- You must be able to change records yourself, otherwise you cannot connect.
- No forced extras
- Do not let anyone sell you an email bundle, site builder or other extras you do not need.
Frequently asked questions
How much does web hosting at Daylit cost?
A static website costs € 0,19 per month, billed yearly. WordPress hosting starts at € 1,49 per month.
Does the price go up when I renew?
No, we do not do cheap first years: you renew at the same rate. If we ever have to change a rate, for example because of a VAT increase, you will hear well in advance and you may cancel free of charge.
Where are the servers?
All servers are in the Netherlands, at our own location, with our own solar panels and battery.
Does Daylit always run on solar power?
As much as possible, but not always, and we would rather say so honestly. During the day we run on our own solar panels and at night on the solar power stored in our battery. When the battery is empty, for example in winter when there is little sun, we top up with power from the grid.
Can I use my own domain name?
Yes. You get a free address like yourname.app.daylit.nl, and you can connect your own domain with a CNAME record. We take care of the SSL certificate.
Where can I buy a cheap domain name?
From any registrar that lets you manage DNS yourself. Compare renewal prices, not first-year promotions, and check the notice period. Above you can see how to connect your domain afterwards.
What happens if I forget to pay?
You first get a reminder with at least 14 days to pay. If you still do not pay, we pause your site. Pay within 30 days and your site is back online straight away. After that your plan ends and you can still download your data for 30 days before we delete it permanently. You get an email at every step.
And if I forget to cancel?
About a month before every renewal you get a message. If you are a consumer and your plan has already renewed, you can still cancel at any time with one month's notice. Anything you paid in advance for too long is refunded.
Does Daylit also sell domain names or email?
Not yet. That is exactly how we stay cheap. You arrange your domain name and email with a registrar of your choice, and then connect the domain to Daylit.

Yes, every day, at no extra cost.
