Hybrid cloud
From Azure to Daylit: lower your Azure bill with a hybrid setup
Azure is strong at global scale, identity and CDN, but expensive for load that runs the same 24 hours a day: databases, API back-ends, background jobs, and development and test environments. With a hybrid setup you keep in Azure what belongs there, and run the predictable load in Daylit containers on our own cluster in the Netherlands, at a fixed monthly price.
What stays in Azure, what can move to Daylit
- Stay in Azure: front-ends and CDN (Front Door), Microsoft Entra ID for sign-in and MFA, and global traffic.
- Can move to Daylit: databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB), API back-ends, workers and queues, and development, test and acceptance environments that now run day and night.
Daylit runs every application in its own isolated Linux container (LXC) instead of a full VM. That saves memory and power. Storage is Ceph on our own cluster.
Custom managed container, with a release pipeline
For databases and back-ends Daylit has no standard fixed-price plan. You get a custom managed container: we set it up, back it up and keep an eye on it. If you want, it comes with a full DTAP pipeline (development, test, acceptance, production), as VoltLogic uses in production. Every new version then goes through test first and goes live only after approval. For agencies that is the cheap way to take dev/test out of Azure.
The connection between Azure and Daylit
A secure connection between Azure and Daylit, through a site-to-site VPN or Azure Relay/Hybrid Connections, is set up together on request when you start. It is not a switch you turn on yourself. This way we decide per client which ports and networks are reachable; clients stay separated from each other on the network.
Honest about availability and power
- One region: Daylit is currently one cluster in the Netherlands, with Ceph storage across several servers. The Care option gives 99.5% availability with compensation: if we miss it, you get money back. If you need 99.99%, keep an extra backup in your own Azure Blob.
- Power: not "100% green". Daylit runs on its own solar panels and battery as much as possible, topped up from the grid. Per container we measure consumption in watts and kWh per month, and the share of solar, battery and grid. You can use those numbers for your CSRD reporting.
- Savings: no promise of a fixed percentage. We work it out with your real Azure invoice against our custom price.
Frequently asked questions
What does a managed container at Daylit cost?
That depends on memory, CPU and storage. Send us the main lines of your Azure invoice and we will make a proposal with a fixed monthly price and an honest comparison.
Can I keep using Entra ID?
Yes. Sign-in and MFA stay in Azure. Your application at Daylit talks to your Azure environment through the secure connection.
What about egress fees?
Daylit charges nothing per gigabyte of outgoing traffic (within fair use). Traffic leaving Azure towards Daylit is still Azure egress; we include that in the comparison.
Where is the data?
In the Netherlands, on Daylit's servers, with a GDPR data processing agreement.
